Undergraduate Math Tutor

@ Math Study Center

I worked in the Math Study Center as an undergraduate math tutor in the Fall of 2017. I tutored basic Calculus series I, II, and III. I worked with other 10 tutors team, under the supervision of Professor Matthew Conroy.

Confidence

My experience as a math tutor has been a confidence-building journey. During the first week of my tutoring, I was really scared of seeing an unknown problem and I could not solve it, then I would be embarrassed in front of my student. However, my tutor teams had been supportive for me and they encouraged teamwork and team-effort when coming across elusive problems. Therefore, I became confident to embrace difficulties in work as I know my team always has my back.

Excellence

My academic excellence has prepared me for this opportunity. My MATH 300, Mathematical Reasoning, Professor Judith Arms recommended me to be one of the tutors. This experience has pushed me to continue pursue academic excellence, I have kept studying hard for all my math courses, and dare to ask for help myself.

Initiative and Creating Changes

During my tutor shift, I took the initiative to tutor with care and create changes. When my students asked me how to fill the blanks on Webassign (an online math assignment page), I would try explaining from the every beginning, make sure that my student fully understood the concept. I would like to make the Math Study Center full of humanity and caring, and our team would sincerely want to see our students succeed in the future.

the notes from my graduate mentor Connor. Besides being a tutor, I strongly believe in the power of mentorship.
